Together with the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands, the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA) will set up a Geographical Information System (GIS), containing accurate information on the location of most of the maritime wrecks in its records and the physical remains of each wreck. The SAHRA’s principal source of data on South Africa’s maritime and underwater cultural heritage resources no longer meets today’s requirements. The GIS will reflect the diversity of South Africa’s resources and will be linked to existing (SAHRA) databases.
